Amelia Pond - Karen Gillan

30 Days of New Who Challenge | Day 2 - Favourite Companion

Amelia Pond. The Girl Who Waited. Mad, impossible Amy Pond. I look at her and I feel like know every fiber in her being. Every hope and dream in her heart. Why? It’s because we’ve seen her as a child. I’ve been that child. That was what I thought about when I saw little Amelia Pond sitting in her garden on her suitcase, waiting for the Doctor. This was a lonely little girl, utterly brilliant and wonderful, who ached inside.

Then through her journey with the Doctor we saw how she goes from a flighty, immature girl caught up in her abandonment issues to a woman strong enough to bring the Doctor back into existence with her mind alone. Along the way she learned to conquer her grandeur infatuations, saved lives, saw the universe like a child, only to grow up again, but this time in the right way, with her heart no longer hardened to beautiful, magical things.

But what I really liked about Amy is not only is she smart enough to outwit the Doctor from time to time but she is not afraid of her sexuality and is more than happy to use it if it will give her an advantage. She smart, sassy, opinionated, gorgeous, sometimes a little bit neurotic but more importantly, she is totally unapologetic when it comes to doing that things she love and protecting the people she loves.
